5-April-2006 - the Intellectual Property (IP) provider - Digital Core Design today has announced the release of a new DP80C51 - Pipelined High Performance 8-bit Microcontroller IP Core.

Meeting the needs of customers who in their work use standard 80C51 we put new DP80C51 at their disposal. It is an immediate substitute which is 100 percent compatible with pin, software in respect to a standard 80C51, up to 10 times faster, though.

DP80C51 is an ultra high performance, speed optimized soft core of a single-chip 8-bit embedded controller dedicated for operation with fast (typically on-chip) and slow (off-chip) memories. The core has been designed with a special concern for performance to power consumption ratio. This ratio is extended by an advanced power management unit PMU. There are two configurations of the DP80C51: Harward, where external data and program buses are separated, and von Neumann, with common program and external data bus. DP80C51 has Pipelined RISC architecture and executes 85-200 million instructions per second. This performance can also be exploited to great advantage in low power applications where the core can be clocked over ten times more slower than the original implementation without performance depletion.

The DP80C51 is a technology independent VHDL or VERILOG design that can be implemented in a variety of process technologies and can be fully customized accordingly to customer needs.

DP80C51 is delivered with fully automated testbench and complete set of tests allowing easy package validation at each stage of SoC design flow.

Customer can select VHDL, VERILOG HDL Source code, and FPGA Netlists depending on what is preferred. Core is licensed under Single Design or Unlimited Designs options. For further details please contact DCD.
